Senior Capstone Project
Exploring the topic of digital authoritarianism and the problems of countries surveilling and manipulating their own citizens to maintain power.
Throughout this project, I've been looking at the topic of digital authoritarianism, and show how specific countries (China, Russia, etc.) manipulate their own citizens. My capstone project also explores the global rise of digital authoritarianism, examining how surveillance and information control technologies are spreading from authoritarian regimes into democratic societies. My project also investigates how these tools are leveraged to undermine fundamental human rights, weakening the foundations of democracy in favor of digital control.

Research Paper
Seniors in the Global Studies program complete a year long capstone project exploring a global issue of their choice. My topic is about the spread of Digital Authoritarianism, and specifically its impact on Democracy. The paper outlines how democratic states must go about dealing with digital authoritarianism, and also looks into how other authoritarian states function in comparison.
Product #2
For my second product, I created a proposition that revises 3 articles within the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. I decided this was important to revise as the ICCPR is very outdated, and has zero account for how much the world has changed with modern technology. This is similar in many ways to parts of my research paper as the point of it is to make sure that the spread of digital authoritarianism cannot happen within democratic countries.
Product #3
For my third product, I decided to create a booklet going over what digital authoritarianism actually is, and how we need to spread awareness on the issue of digital authoritarianism. I used Canva to create the booklet, and it has very similar information and resources used for what I did in my research paper. I also made this product to give more context about what I was speaking about in my product #2, and why it's important that we have policy change.
